Our Purpose:
Lean Horse Productions, producer of the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon Weekend of running events has always given back to the community in a variety of ways and this year is no different. The focus of that giving back has become more focused however. Lean Horse Productions has partnered with the Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity affiliate and pledged to provide the funding for a Lean Horse Habitat House in the Hills. Over the next 5 years, LHP and the participants in LHP events will make a life-changing difference to a deserving family right here in it’s own back yard.
Jerry Dunn, founder of LHP, is a long time supporter of Habitat for Humanity. He believes that their philosophy of “a hand up, not a hand out” is the reason that they have been around for almost 25 years and have built over 300,000 homes, all around the world.
Jerry literally ran across the United States in 1991, spreading the word about Habitat. He ran from San Francisco to Washington DC encouraging people to get involved with their local affiliates. He is in the process of planning a 20 year re-run of that journey in the summer of 2011.
Jerry has this to say about LHP’s partnership with the Black Hills Area Habitat; “It has become common practice in the running industry for large events to partner with a charitable organization as a way to fund raise, and the Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon has grown to a size that makes it a viable avenue for raising funds. I feel blessed by this opportunity give back to the community that has helped me get to this level of success. Not only am I able to offer the runners and walkers an opportunity to do something good for themselves, by training for and participating in one of our events, I’m also giving them the opportunity to do something good for others. This is even better than a win-win, it’s a win-win-win.”
Jerry and his company has challenged his participants to Make Your Marathon Matter by adding a contribution, of any amount, to their registration fee, which he will match, and, he is challenging area businesses to make donations directly to the Black Hills Area Habitat Affiliate in the name of their company in conjunction.

Matching Funds
Jerry and the Staff of The Deadwood Mickelson Trail Marathon have teamed up with Black Hills Habitat for Humanity and would like you to consider adding a donation of $1 per mile to your DMTM registration. DMTM will be matching every dollar donated to Habitat for Humanity up to $3000. Our goal is to raise $10,000 in 2010 for BH Habitat for Humanity to help provide shelter for more families in the Black Hills.
Corporate Team Program: Train as a Team
We are inviting employees to form teams and participate in the weekend of events. For every Corporate Participant, DMTM will be donating $10 of each registration for the Full Marathon, Marathon Relay, or Half Marathon to BH Habitat for Humanity to help provide shelter for more families in the Black Hills. Come and run or walk with your fellow co-workers in what promises to be a fun and memorable event weekend. We are a walker-friendly event so don’t let the “running” part of it stop you from entering.
We will also offer an training program and supported group runs for Corporate Participants including one with Scott Engmann, the Executive Director of BH Habitat for Humanity and Jerry Dunn, DMTM founder and “ America’s Marathon Man”. The Training program is designed for all levels of runners and is available on-line. An introduction meeting to the training program can be held in your workplace to get everyone off to a running start. To sign up for the Corporate Team Program or for more information, please email Emily at info@DeadwoodMickelsonTrailMarathon.com
